Local Political Follow Ups:

• Met with constituents in Doughiska to discuss issues affecting the local area. Housing is of course a massive concern and I have followed up on a number of housing issues after those meetings
• Queried the Minister on wastewater treatment plants for the islands
• Asked the Minister about full-time roles for healthcare workers such as OTs, Speech therapists, and Physiotherapists. Our healthcare workers need fair and stable working conditions so that the health service can function better and people can actually access the care they need

Engagements:

• Visited a local school to discuss plans to build a library for the students

• Attended briefing about precarity in academic employment
• Ghlac mé páirt i nGradam Sheosaimh Uí hÓgartaígh le Gaillimh le Gaeilge
• Met with the President of University of Galway to discuss the student accommodation crisis, the cost of third level education, and university funding
• Attended the opening of the new Alice Perry bridge in Galway

Dáil Work:

• Discussed barriers for Deaf and Blind students in the Education Committee. Very interesting to learn about the role that assistive technology can play, and what still needs to be done in that area.
• Spoke on issues with the accessibility of support for people with disabilities. This is a constant issue for people in Galway, where some respite services have been completely shut down due to staffing problems. We must improve access to services and supports to level the playing field for our disabled community members
• Queried the Minister about reducing student fees for third level education and expanding SUSI
